Suffixes


In this topic of vocabulary we review diffrent suffixes. 

First, it is importan to remember the following ideas. 

1. Some nouns and verbs have the same form: a plan (n.) / plan (v.) 

2. Nouns can be formed by adding to verbs suffixes like: -y, -ment, -ure, -sion, etc. 

Recover - Recovery 
Fail - Failure 

3. Nouns can be formed by adding to adjectives suffixes like: -ness, -ity. 

Happy - Happiness

4. Also, adjectives can be formed by adding suffixes to nouns. If we add suffixes to adjectives you can form adverbs and to form adjevtives we can add suffixes to verbs and viceversa. Look at the followin examples: 

Mood - Moody / Talent - Talented 

Recent - Recently

Create - Creative 

Clear - Clarify

Use the class presentation as a reference as well you can see the different suffixes in page 156 in your book. 

As a practice complete exercise 6 from page 81. Not only post your answers of the words you formed, but also answer the questions of the exercise and post them below as a comment.

    3) Do you consider yourself to be a courageous person? Why? Why not? If I have to deal with people I usually tend to avoid the situation but in other cases I can have a lot of courage.
    4) What would you do if there was a loud disturbance outside your window in the middle of the night? I'll turn the lights and look carefully through the window.
    5) Do you agree with the saying that "Flattery gets you nowhere"? Yes, I do agree.

    2) Do you usually need motivation to do difficult things? Only if I don't like the activity.
    3) Do you consider yourself to be a courageous person? Why? Why not? No, I prefer to find a way to avoid the problem, but if I have to do it I go through with it.
    4) What would you do if there was a loud disturbance outside your window in the middle of the night? Check if its something dangerous and if so turn the lights.

    2. - motivation. - I just need interest.
    3. - courageous. - Depending on the thing I have to face, if it seems like a nice challenge, I would act courageous.
    4. - disturbance. - If it sound suspicious (like not as a cat) look through the window to see what was it.
    5. - flattery. - Depending on the objective of doing it.
    6. - imaginary. - I had some.

    3) Do you consider yourself to be a courageous person? Why? Why not? Not at all. I pretty much consider myself a coward because I tend to avoid difficult or corageous situations.

    3>Do you consider yourself to be a courageous person? Why?/Why not? Sometimes, commonly with what I only consider important. Because I must put aall from me and concentrate in the situation and sometimes I do not even know how I did it.

    Yes I do, because it is not necessary to feel good or better than other.
