Past Verbs Forms in the Present or the Future


In this first part of the virtual class we will review  a topic about grammar. 

 This topic makes reference to the idea that past verb forms do not always refere to past time. As you can see in the following examples the sentences refer to the future because they tell you what the speaker would like to happen: 
It's time they all accepted that Mark is a good student. 

The boss would prefer if more people got involved with the new project. 

He'd aprreciate if  more people looked at the benefits rather than to the disadvantages. 

As you can see eventhough the main action in the sentences is in past tense all of them make reference to an expectation someone might have for the future.
